Last night I had a big surprise. On my way into town after 7 o/c, & passing Seed's shop, I heard someone calling out "Billy" & there was Uncle John. The Stentor had been delayed owing to a ship painters' dispute & wont sail until next Tuesday, so thought he might as well wait at home till then. He went with me to the Fire Station where he surprised the Chief & Insp. Holt just the same as me. Before leaving home Mrs Smith & a niece from Worcester called & they stayed until about 9 o'clock. I met a policeman last night. MacDermott, who has just returned from the Northern division, Rhine Army. Been in from the beginning. Nice chap. Pater.
