Elizabeth was the daughter of John Robert and Martha Halstead (nee Hirst).
Elizabeth had two brothers, James who married Esther Gudgeon and Edmund who married Doris Stead.

Elizabeth was born in Briercliffe and the couple lived at 8 Queen Street after they married.
