Hiding in an amongst the flotsam and jetsom of my dad's stuff I found his military service regiment...and he himself, in a lucid moment, recalled his army number...so I sent off for his WW2 medals, which he had never bothered to do. I was much encouraged to do this by our own LEVER here on this website. Lo and Behold...they came in the mail not 4 weeks later! They must have been perched on someone's desk all this time waiting to be claimed!
Anyhow, dad was tickled pink...couldn't believe his eyes! "What did I get medals for? I was only a cook" quoth he. "Well" I responded, "Where would any army be without its cooks.....essential services....first in, last out!"
At our LEVER's suggestion I am getting them mounted and put in a frame with my dad's photo. When I have it done, I'll send a picture to you for the photo archive.
Anyhow, many thanks for the address, the encouragement, and the suggestions... :D
