Former Tram Driver Killed
Mrs. Smith, 137, Ardwick-street, Burnley Lane, has received a letter from a second-lieutenant, informing her that her husband, Sergt. Arthur Smith, R.F.A., aged 37 years, was killed instantly by a shell on September 10. Deceased had been in the Army 17 years altogether as a regular and reservist. Whilst he was a reservist he worked on the Accrington tramways as a driver for some years. He joined up again on the outbreak of the war, and had just been in France three years when his death occurred. His mother and father live at 406, Colne-road.
