Burnley Express 20 May 1916 Local Prisoners of War
News has been received at Nelson that Pte. Harry Dearden of the 8th Queen's Regiment, was wounded at Loos and captured by the Germans, and is now a prisoner of war. Before the war he worked as a warpdresser for Mr. J. Riley, Nelson. In a letter to his friends he says he has had two operations in Germany but his leg is not right yet. Pte. Rennie Pilling, of 4, Veevers-street, Brierfield, is now a prisoner of war in Germany. Pte. Pilling was taken prisoner in September 1914 at the Aisne, after being wounded in the arm. He was a reservist of the 1st East Lancashires. Pte. Rennie Pilling is well known in Brierfield, being a member of the Laberal Club, and he was employed at Pickles Bros. Brierfield. In a letter to his father and mother Pte. Pilling says he is in the best of health.
