BACK FROM GERMANY.
Another prisoner of war released by the advance into Germany arrived home on Wednesday. He is L/Cpl. Herbert Nicholson, of 16, Gilbert-street, Burnley, who joined the Hampshire Regiment in January, 1942, and served in North Africa and Sicily. He was at the landing at Salerno, where he was wounded and captured in September, 1943. Taken to Germany, he was acting as secretary at the Orthopaedic Hospital, Meiningen, when he was liberated by the Americans on April 5th.
L/Cpl. Nicholson states that food was in short supply and Red Cross parcels were always welcomed. He was flown to England last Sunday by transport plane. Prior to enlisting L/Cpl. Nicholson who is 22, worked for Mr. Harrison, butcher, of Nelson. At the expiration of his leave he will return to hospital for further treatment.
