LAD’S CLUB LEADER KILLED.
One of Captain Riley’s Foremost Helpers.
Mr. and Mrs. Falshaw, of 2, Prestwich-st., off Coal Clough-lane, received the sad news on Wednesday that their son, Pte. Harry Falshaw, of the King’s Own Yorkshire Light Infantry, is officially reported as killed on July 1st. He had previously been reported wounded. Before the war, Pte. Falshaw was employed at Foster’s mill, Coal Clough. He attended St. Paul’s Sunday school, and was a teacher there. For the last six or seven years he had been a member of the Burnley Lads’ Club, and was one of the late Captain Riley’s right hand men. He had a great influence over the younger boys, his sterling character, high example, and kindly nature endearing him to all connected with the club. He conducted services here before joining the Army about July of last year, and those associated with the club had been looking forward to his taking a great part in it on his return home. Pte. Falshaw only went to the front last June. He was 23 years of age.
