DCM Award Gazetted 1/1/1918.
Citation Reads:"For conspicuous gallentry and devotion to duty . As battalion signalling serjeant he remained continuuously on duty during the whole time, in which active operations were in progress, working under heavy shell fire in order to ensure that communication was maintained. He has shown continuous devotion to duty, and has never failed to maintain the same high standard of efficiency throughout the operation."

William Willows was an under age recruit to his Regiment in 1901 and served briefly in Sth Africa before being found out and returned to England. He joined the reserves in 1905 and reverted to his birth name, William Godfrey Clayton. He was the proprietor of the Station Coffee House at 127 Albert Road Colne until re-called to his Regiment at the outbreak of WW1.

I've been unable to locate any further details of his WW1 service and would appreciate any pointers that might assist me in finding out more information.
