Hi. Im just wondering if anyone out there has information regarding my Uncle Matty (James Matthew Bannister) who is buried at Haggate Cemetery. I know he was wounded at Dunkirk and died as a result of his wounds, but I would like to know more about him. I know that prior to the outbreak of war, he was working as a farmhand in the locality, possibly Sweet Clough farm (although that may not be the correct name of the farm).
Would like to share any info that I have too.
Thanks.

According to Lancashirebmd marriages Harry Bannister married Eva Annie McGuiness in 1923. If you send for the wedding cert it will give the name of his father, so the family can then be traced down the census returns.

This is a bit of a stab at the 1911 census---Harry Bannister living in Southfield St Nelson, Interestingly Alice is born Extwistle, Margaret--Burnley, and all the rest Nelson.
Name Age
John Thomas Bannister 50
Alice Bannister 45
Margaret Bannister 27
Thomas Herbert Bannister 22
Susan Bannister 19
James Bannister 17
Nellie Bannister 14
Clara Bannister 9
Harry Bannister 6

Following on from this I found a marriage and on the same page is an Alice Whitaker
John Thomas Bannister
Date of Registration: Jan-Feb-Mar 1883
Registration district: Burnley
Inferred County: Lancashire
Volume Number: 8e
Page Number: 381

The only way to check if this is the right family is really to get Harry Bannister's marriage cert.
Hope this helps.
