A book has been recommended to me by Andrew Mackay. His father helped with the research for it.

I think John Bentley has been a very prolific writer over the years on the history of this area.as Roger Frost has.
Its a pity that a lot of the local interest books seem hard to obtain these days, there must be mileage in getting some of them reprinted as more people these days are interested in local history I believe.

I thought it must be John Bentley from Haggate. Andrew says it is a good book - over 120 pages. Perhaps he may have some left although I think he said it was published in 1999. No harm in asking him Portia if you know him.

I suggested that Roger brought some of his unsold books to the meetings, I am sure they would go. He has written quite a few besides "A Lancashire Township". Perhaps John would do the same.
Might give Roger a ring and gee him up.

Gloria if you speak to Roger would you ask him what the status of Extwistle Hall is? Is it under a compulsory purchase order and what does it mean? Hope you don't mind.

I am confused now too.Good idea will go for a brew. Been up taking more photos at Haggate this morning in the graveyard.Will give Mel something to do transcribing those onto the site :lol:

I have a load of memorial ribbons, cards and some photos from Sue too. They arrived yesterday. Have to get them on the site so that Sue can she her Dad what the spiderlady did on the spiderweb :wink:

David, I'll email you tomorrow when I am in front of my machine so that you can start emailing the pics across. Many thanks for getting them.

Kris, thanks for taking care of the site while I have been missing this last couple of days.

I've had the best day today. Cant wait for delivery of my printouts. I paid £36 for one of them!!

This book was discussed at last nights meeting. There are no copies available for purchase.

We (The Society) are currently building a file on Briercliffe's soldiers. This is going to take time to complete.
It's not yet decided what format the finished 'file' will be though I did suggest it could be made available on this website. This is the same as the project that Kris and I had already started work on.

Remarks of interest to next of kin.
The deceased soldier was accorded a private funeral. The coffin was draped with the Union Jack and surmounted by many beautiful wreaths, which were placed on the coffin by relatives. Prior to internment a service was held by the Rev. W.J. Clark in the Chapel at the Cemetery.
Administration Headquarters, A.I.F. London, were represented at the funeral.
