Marie has sent me another disc of photos. Mayn of these new ones relate to WWI. They can be found on the usual page http://www.briercliffesociety.co.uk/Pho ... 0Attic.htm

There are about 25 and all seem to be towards the bottom of the page. Apologies to anyone with a slower internet connection for the length of the pages in the photo archive. I am hoping to get the archive paginated but this is something I need Lyndon to do and this site is low on the priority list at the moment.

Re; http://www.briercliffesociety.co.uk/Pho ... fantry.htm

Yes, this looks like the King’s Shropshire Light Infantry. The regiments badge can be seen here http://www.lightinfantry.me.uk/ksli.htm

Re; http://www.briercliffesociety.co.uk/Pho ... %20Man.htm

Yes, this looks like the Lancashire Fusiliers. The badge can be seen here http://www.northeastmedals.co.uk/britis ... iliers.htm

Re; http://www.briercliffesociety.co.uk/Pho ... d%20Co.htm

I cannot see a Regimental badge so the regiment is unknown. None of the men have stripes so are most probably Privates

Re: http://www.briercliffesociety.co.uk/Pho ... %20War.htm

It is difficult to see the regimental badge, but the man on the right appears to be in the Manchester Regiment, badge can be seen here http://www.ashtonpals.fusiveweb.co.uk/

The man on the left has four Chevrons’ on his lower right sleeve. Perhaps someone with more expertise can answer this, but are they good conduct chevrons? They look larger than some other examples I have seen. There is a thread on this topic here http://1914-1918.invisionzone.com/forum ... 46019.html

I believe a soldier could not join the forces until they were at least 18 years of age, but people told porkpies and some soldiers were as young as 15 years old.

Re; http://www.briercliffesociety.co.uk/Pho ... Quants.htm

Again, I think this is the Manchester Regiment

Re; http://www.briercliffesociety.co.uk/Pho ... s/Pals.htm

I don’t know much about men’s hats but maybe this site can help you date the photograph http://www.hathistory.org/

Re; http://www.briercliffesociety.co.uk/Pho ... /Pals2.htm

All five men appear to be wearing the same lapel pin. I wonder what this was?

Re: http://www.briercliffesociety.co.uk/Nam ... nown21.htm

Any idea what these armbands are?

Re: http://www.briercliffesociety.co.uk/Nam ... nown22.htm

There is a thread about “knut’s” here http://1914-1918.invisionzone.com/forum ... 46243.html

“From 74 278 Coy RE.” This refers to their company. I will have a look to see what I can find

Re; http://www.briercliffesociety.co.uk/Nam ... nown23.htm

The same armband???

Re: http://www.briercliffesociety.co.uk/Pho ... /Pals2.htm

Also, I see the five men are wearing different collar and tie combinations.

Back left, full pointed collar with tie.
Second from right, back row. Small collar and neck tie
Far right, back fow, same as above, but with a slightly more visible collar
Front row, left. Same as above
Front row, Right. Round tip collar and tie.

I would think the collar style would help date this photo.

Hi Everyone, I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who has sent in their comments on my Dad's WW1 related photographs. Please keep the discussions going. I am following up every lead that you've given me. I will keep Mel informed of my progress, as I've done so with other photo identifications in 'Mollie's Attic'. It was only a short time ago that I believed I had reached a point where no more identifications would be made. How wrong I was! If I can identify who my aunts, uncles, grandparents etc are, then I shall be very happy! When I look at all the hundreds of photographs I see faces! I don't seem to be able to look beyond this, so it was enlightening to read comments about hats and lapel buttons etc. I shall discipline myself to be more observant of the detail from now on. I look forward to loads more replies on ALL (!) the posted photos. Thank You. Marie

"74 278 Coy RE" I think this is the Royal Engineers. Scroll down to see an example badge

Re: the link above
I think the men in this photo http://www.briercliffesociety.co.uk/Nam ... nown22.htm are also in this one http://www.briercliffesociety.co.uk/Pho ... ineers.htm
so the Royal Engineers agrees.

Yes, I think so. At least we agree

I would say these two are also the same man. http://www.briercliffesociety.co.uk/Nam ... nown26.htm and http://www.briercliffesociety.co.uk/Nam ... nown27.htm

Note, they are both wearing a pistol on their belts, very unusual.

Post subject:  Re: Mollies Attic

I'm not as convinced with that one Kris - the fuller moustache alters the look of the face quite a bit. Also, the eyes look a slightly different shape but I cannot make my mind up if that is because of the moustache.
