I know the "tune" but it isn't really a proper tune. The chorus is to the song sung on bonfire night , I think --come a calling, come a calling on bonfire night-----its a tantivy sort of beat to it, like cantering on a horse (sorry if you don't ride). Cannot explain it any better.

This hunting song is fascinating! What pictures it conjures up: "As they swept helter skelter o'er Extwistle Moor." Can't you just see it. It has a wonderful beat. It reminds me a bit of that poem, "The Highwayman," that we used to learn in school.

If the song is from several sources, could it have originated earlier than 1889? Would the names give a clue? Although it could still have been written at a later date than the lives of those mentioned, I suppose.

Sue, have you any idea yet as to when you will be over? I think the exhibition is going to be 13th/14th Sept, so Pollyanna could take us on our tour one day the week before or after that.

There was some doubt as to whether or not I'd be able to come after all....son said he was planning a wedding in August....2 grandchildren coming for the month of July....thought I probably would be broke by September! However, wedding has been postponed for 1 year (hallelujah!)so it looks very hopeful. Hubby going today for final word on health issues (has been very ill), so should know definitively by this weekend. Just need to juggle dates with UK friends around your Sept 13/14...and get back to you forthwith.
Thanks for considering my travel plans.......

Sue Please don't make your travel plans around me doing a tour. I am away in September for a couple of weeks. Not sure of the dates yet. Hope your husband is better.

Thanks...he is much better now.
I would be most disappointed to come all the way from Canada and not have a chance to meet you, Pollyanna. You have been particularly helpful...and interesting.
Chances are we will book a trip from about the 8th of September for a couple of weeks..so the exhibition would fall in the middle. Chances are...to be confirmed a.s.a.p.

Sue, did you get your trip booked? Don't know if anything is happening about the walk. Roger has mentioned doing one on the last wed of sept weather permitting.

Oh, I wish! No, not going to happen this year. Hubby had second lot of surgery 4 days ago and is hurpling around.....and dad is putting up a fuss at his new 'digs'...a nursing home. "What am I doing in the land of the Living Dead?" quoth he....
no dignity left, poor thing. I am longing for a trip, but perhaps Spring.
Thanks for asking....Take lots of photos!

Sounds as though you have your hands full.
Let us know when/if you look like being able to come over, if we haven't got Roger or Pollyanna I am sure we can all get together and trundle around on our owns. The more the merrier.

I had a query yesterday about the Roggerham walk in September so I phoned Roger. It is still planned to go ahead, weather permitting of course. Slightly early meet of 6:50 p.m. at the school and then head off to Roggerham from there.

Who is coming to the exhibition then? It is on two days so I will only be there for one of those.

I hope too but it is going to be nearer to the date before I can commit myself to which day.

I've had my newsletter this morning.

We haven't got our news letter. AND, I don't know which day we shall be going either.
