Not many posts of late here !

I guess dna technology has moved on in the last few years. I did the Ancestry test about 18 months ago, and have made quite a lot of contacts, typically around 3rd cousin level.

Recommended as a birthday or Xmas present !

I've toyed with this but as I don't subscribe to ancestry (or any others), I'm not sure what I would get from it. Would I have to have my tree uploaded to the likes of ancestry?
I'm more tempted to get my dog a DNA test to see what he is a mix of!

I know Gloria did hers a while ago - not sure what results she got from it in the end.

I stopped making my tree publicly available on sites because I was being connected with people who had error after error. I'm not saying my research is perfect or flawless but I do check everything before adding it to my tree...seems some don't.

I've done it. After all these years, I have sent a DNA sample off to Ancestry. My Christmas present from mum. Still waiting for it to be received/processed, extracted etc but I expect to be connected to anyone from Briercliffe who has done theirs

I recently sent for my DNA test through Ancestry as well because it was bought as a Christmas present! . Am awaiting results with interest but I suspect the results will be very general. My Ancestry tree is private because like you I find there are horrendous mistakes on some Trees. In case I am guilty of the same offence I always make a note of where and from whom I gleaned the information.

Mine has been received, waiting for the sample processing to start now.
I can't remember what I opted for in the settings but hopefully it means I can be contacted! Will have to check now :?

Bet we're related Mel.

I'll bet too that I am related to you two or three ! See if I come up as a match (Ancestry). I do think that the existence of matches can sometimes strengthen a somewhat weak link, based on just documentary evidence.

I've looked on my list and you aren't on it Rex, saying that, there aren't many names on my list. Daft question, but am I on your list?

I've not added many of my Briercliffe lot yet. I may do that later today while we're sitting in front of the fire with a glass of wine.

The wait is doing my head in!

Had a better look at my DNA stuff on ancestry and I have 345 matches 4th-6th cousins.
I have not linked it to my tree and not sure whether or not to, what are others thoughts on this?

Gloria, I don't think that you are on my list either, though it can happen just one way, I am not sure why. If you let me know your username, say by Private Message, I can check more easily.

I think linking your tree can help, no problems with it that I have encountered.

Rex, we have talked about this in private messages, but I thought I'd answer on here in case anyone else has any input.
You said you have Halsteads in your tree, the only one I have is a Lawrence Halstead born 1882, he married Maggie Brierley in 1906. The father of Maggie Brierley was William Brierley who died in the Morecambe Bay disaster 1894. William was my GT, GT, grandfather.

My results are available. My username, should anyone match, is Melanie Whitehead.

I expect to see everyone in Briercliffe please

Annoyingly, I have to be a paying member to view trees of matches.

I'll have a look. I became a member again at Christmas with their offer.
I've looked, and can't see you Mel, and I always thought everybody was related up there in the past.

My tree is set to private at the minute and I've not yet put it all up there. Will change when I get home.
Out of interest, do you have a connection to Selina Horncastle?
