Hi
I just wondered if anyone could point me in the right direction. I have traced my ancestors back to William Duerden b.1808 who lived at Spring House. I now know he was married twice once in 1830 at St. Peters to Jane Hitchon and again in 1849 to Ann/Nancy Stansfield at Haggate. On the marriage certificate his father is named as Richard Duerden a weaver. I just wondered if anyone had access to a list of Duerden births similar to those listed for Proctors, or could tell me where Richard Duerden was in 1841. I know William was living with Jane then at Higher Timber Hill and the name appears as Dearden.

Thanks

Anne

Hi Anne, I have looked for Richard in the 1841 but cannot see him, however, I have found a death which could be him.

This may be nothing at all to do with your Richard Duerden but I looked for someone who could be his widow in 1851 census and found this lady living as mother-in-law. Did William have a sister Ellen?

Hi

Thanks for the replies - I do not know if William Duerden b.1808 had any brothers or sisters, although I assume he must - in 1841 he was living with Jane Hitchon and 3 sons Richard b. 1834 (burried at Haggate with Elizabeth Stansfield)who married a Mary Emmett, Robert b. 1837 who married Hannah Taylor at Haggate on Xmas day 1856 and then died on 1/7/1857, and John b.1839 who married as his second wife in 1869 Mercy Leigh.
As William's second marriage to Ann/Nancy Stansfield took place in 1849 and his father is stated as Richard Duerden a weaver I assume he was still living, I do not know if certificates always stated if the father was living or had died.
Also I have found on the 1861 census that a member of Hartley Emmett's family - Lawrence Emmett b.1830 was living at Spring House from the tree submitted to yout Web site by Kristian Baxter - how could I contact this person to see if he has any information about the Duerdens.
Anne

You can send Kris a private message (pm) by going to the members section at the top of the page. Or if you sit and wait I am sure he will read this and respond.

Sorry Anne, I should have told you to look under Leaver in the members. That is the name he goes under.

Hi marlholes, I am also researching Duerden’s, but unfortunately, it is not the same family. You might get lucky if you contact Ray Duerden at http://www.rayduerden.co.uk/ (Duerden christenings http://www.rayduerden.co.uk/index6a.htm )
