Foot and Mouth Disease and Swine Fever
The foot and mouth disease was found to exist on the premises of Robert Whitehead, of Samlesbury, near Preston, on Saturday, one animal being affected. It is supposed to have spread from a farm adjacent, where one animal was discovered to be suffering from the disease a few weeks ago. -On Tuesday, a communication was received from Inspector Tindal stating that a pig belonging to William Rushworth, Blackwood, Stacksteads, near Bacup, had been slaughtered, it being afflicted with swine fever. -On Thursday, it was reported to the Clerk of the Peace, that a pig on the premises of Thomas Spencer, publican, Thornton, near Liverpool, had died from swine fever. -Yesterday morning, information as received at the same office that sheep scab had occurred at Lower Wheathead Farm, Roughlee, near colne, in the occupation of Robert Wilkinson.
