| Post subject: | Abraham Leaver married Ellen Burrows |
When: 26 May 1860 Where: Register Office, Burnley Groom: Abraham Leaver, 21 years, bachelor. Cotton Powerloom weaver of Lane Bottom, Briercliffe Bride: Ellen Burrows, 18 years, spinster. Powerloom weaver of Lane Bottom, Briercliffe. Groom's father - Bride's father - Witnesses: Thomas Burrows Superintendent Registrar Martha Burrows Before me Robert Munn Registrar for Tattersall (?) This certificate is a bit odd. there is no information at all about the fathers, and the Superintendent Registrar appears to have acted as witness. Also, under the line that says Robert Munn Registrar, an extra line of writing has been squashed in which is not too easy to decipher but seems to say "for Tattersall". |

I think it says "Before me Robert Munn Registrar" and then underneath is 'Jno Tattersall Superintendent Registrar' The Superintendent bit has just been squeezed onto the witness line because there was limited space, this is probably why it looks like the witness was also the SR. |

That's what I was coming round to thinking. Still not sure why it needed 2 registrars. I found the bride on 1851, living with her brother. So I'm guessing her parents were dead which may explain the absence of father's details on the certificate. On the other hand I have seen them where the father's name is shown with dec'd after it. |
