I am trying to find information on my great grandparents. My great grandfather is buried in St. James' churchyard. I remember my great grandmother's name and date of death but would like to go further back to their wedding, birth etc.
My great grandfather was called Joseph Pollard. I believe he worked at Walshaw Mill but it could have been Queen Street. He also was a pianist and may have given lessons. He lived on Cuerdale Street.
He had a daughter, Edna, who died aged 26, and a son, Harold, who was my grandad.
Nor do I know much about my grandparents other than that they were both weavers and lived next door to my great grandparents for quite a while. My grandmother was born Janie Tomlin and was a twin.

And I found this record for Ruth Pollard of Spencer street.
Buried 5 October 1891 – Ruth Pollard, Female, age 34 of Spencer street – Grave A2252
And
Buried 26 May 1902 – Bertha Pollard, Female, age 21 of Briercliffe Road – Grave A2252

Thank you so much for that information. I never expected anything so quickly.
I now recall a story that my dad used to tell about my great grandfather, Joseph, offering his dad, Harold, £100 if he would call his son Parker - which my grandad refused. We didn't realise that this was a family name.

Some members may remember my dad, Neville, born in 1928. He went to Lanehead School and the Grammar School but was in the Boys Brigade - possibly at Haggate Baptist. He married Pauline Whittaker in 1949.

I know nothing about my maternal grandmother's background - only that they had some skeletons in the cupboard - probably nothing nowadays - but they did live in the Burnley Lane area - Howsin Street, near Barden School.

Noe I really feel fired up to find out more.

Do you know roughly when your maternal grandmother was born? Is she the one named Janie Tomlin and if so, what was the name of her twin?

Do you know anything at all about her that might help (parents names, siblings names etc?)

Not sure about my grandma's twin. I'll see if my mum can remember anything. I have a vague recollection that the sister moved away. I'm pretty sure they had a double wedding on December 26th - don't know the year yet - but I could be wrong.

Fantastic! I can't believe all this information has come so quickly. Thank you so much. I'm going to get some certificates ordered now.

My elderly mum is quite envious that there is so much info on my dad's side and wants me to see what I can find out about her side but I think it will be quite difficult as gran kept information rather secret as I believe that she was divorced - which was something in those days. Mum tells me that gran's maiden name was Edith Booth and that she was born on May 6th either1889 or 1890. Her first husband was called Whittaker and her second - who I think she married in the fifties was called William Edward Clare and worked as a boilerman in Livingstone Mill. He had a sister called Alice but I think they originated in Workington and I have no idea why they ended up in Burnley. I shall have to see if I can fing him in the census too.

That's the one. I remember Gran saying she had a blind mother. Think her dad was a drinker. I also recall grannie having a brother called Alan but he must have been born later. She later had four daughters - one called Leonora.

Do you know how Mary Ellen Booth lost her sight?

I wonder if there are any records for people who were blind.
