Maureen, do you have census details for this family? The one below cannot be right as they have a daughter, but it is the only one I can find in the Habergham (Lower House) area of Burnley. 1851 Census – HO107; Piece: 2252; Folio: 367; Page: 22 29 Habergham, Habergham All Saints, Burnley Thos. Pilkington, Head, Mar, 26yrs, Labourer to Engineman, b. Clayton Sarah Pilkington, Wife, 26yrs, Power Loom Weaver, b. Habergham Ellen Pilkington, Daughter, 6yrs, Scholar, b. Habergham |

It is the right one Kris. The child was born before the marriage. Thomas Pilkington died (1856-ish, we have a record of his burial at Burnley somewhere) and then in 1860 Sarah Pilkington (formerly Moore) married John Riley. On the 1861 census Joseph appears with John & Sarah Riley at Old Laund Booth. RG9; Piece: 3082; Folio: 47; Page: 8. The daughter (from memory) is shown on 1861 as Ellen Moore. This is where I lose track of Joseph until he marries Mary Phillips. By 1871 John Riley was dead and Sarah was living in Burnley as a servant. I'd check Ancestry again but right now I'm going through 33 districts of Chorlton-on-Medlock one page at a time - looking for my missing Thomas & William Tickle. It's such a horrible job I daren't stop. |
