I didn’t realise the Sparrow Hawk Inn was so old.

From Bennett's History of Burnley.
John Towneley purchased the property in 1586 for £20, and perhaps at that time it became known as "The Sparrow Hawk", the bird which forms the Towneley crest.

I'll look for more, but it runs in my mind that that was the Olde Sparrow Hawk, and the one on the site now is the New one.

Sorted--Based on Fishwick's map, Burnley in 1827
Old Sparrow Hawk was at the bottom of Godley Lane, which I think is now Ormerod Rd.
New Sparrow Hawk was across the road (Church St) in front of a tan yard . Further away from St Peters, towards the now Burnley centre.
