Burnley Express and Advertiser August 20, 1927 Pretty Wedding at Haggate A wedding of much interest to Briercliffe people was solemnised at Haggate Baptist Chapel last Saturday, the contracting parties being Mr. Thomas Edward Heap, son of Mr. Thomas Heap, of Shores Hey Farm, Briercliffe, and Miss Amy Thornton, of 829 Briercliffe-road, Burnley. Mr. Heap is secretary of the local Conservatives and Unionist Association, and his bride is a well-known member of the Haggate Baptist Chapel choir. Both are extremely popular in the Briercliffe district, and the chapel was well filled with friends. The bridesmaids were Miss Irene Elizabeth Thornton (sister of the bride) and Miss Mary Storey (niece of the bridegroom). The duties of the best man were carried out by Mr. Francis Buck (nephew of the bridegroom), the groomsman being Mr. Edmund Leslie Thornton (brother of the bride). Mr. James Halstead (senior) performed the ceremony whilst Miss Hetty Atkinson (at the organ) and a ladies' choir, under the baton of the choirmaster, Mr. W. Burrows, rendered appropriate wedding music. The bride, who was given away by her brother, Mr. Ferdie Thornton, was charmingly attired in a dress of white georgette trimmed with silk lace. She wore a wreath of orange blossoms and veil of Brussels lace and white satin shoes, and she carried a sheaf of lilies. The bridesmaids were attired in dresses of pink crepe de chine, and each carried a bouquet of pink carnations. After the ceremony, the guests were entertained at Shores Hey Farm. The happy couple were the recipients of numerous handsome presents. |
