I wonder if Betty Leaver who married Laurence Emmott is the same Betty who married Edward Procter, 26 June 1854 at Burnley.

Bride – Betty Leaver, 26yrs, spinster, weaver of Lane Head Burnley

Wouldn't work Kris, unless she divorced Lawrence Emmett. Betty & Lawrence married in 49, Betty & Edward Proctor in 1854. According to my tree Betty, wife of Lawrence, was the daughter of john Leaver & Mary Jackson. Betty who married Edward was the daughter of John Leaver & Ann Catlow

I don’t seem to have any info on John Leaver and Mary Jackson, perhaps I missed a post. Can you supply the information you have please?

I'm posting this for the benefit of Susan Lee (nee Leaver ) in response to an email I received via Mel.

Hi Susan
I'm sorry I missed you - as Mel explained I was away until 9 November.
Two things:
Lawrence Emmett's mother was Ellen Catlow, born c 1786 in Lancashire. She married Hartley in 10/10/1806, died 1850 and was buried at Haggate.
John Leaver, son of Betty Leaver and Lawrence Emmett, took his mother's name because he was illegitimate, being born about 2 years before his parents married. We know Lawrence was his father because it says so on John's marriage record.

So far Kris & I haven't made a link between this branch of the Leaver family and ours but I'm sure there must be one if we can get back far enough. Briercliffe was too small of a place.

If I can help you with anything else, please let me know. Preferably through the forum because that way any information we all put together between us is there for the benefit of any other Leavers who come along looking.
Regards
Maureen

Maureen, do you know what church Hartley Emmett and Ellen Catlow were married at? Where did you find the marriage details?

Kris
Sorry - it was Burnley St Peter's. I got it from the microfiche but I can't remember whether it was at the library or the LRO. It isn't one I managed to photograph and I don't have any further details (address, occupations etc) tho it may be that in the earlier records these details weren't recorded.
