Death of Mr Cope

On the 22nd instant, at his residence, Hackney-road, London, aged 65. Mr. John John Cope, of the firm of Cope and Sherwin, printing press makers, and the designers and patentees of the Royal Imperial and Albion presses. The deceased (who was the son of the late Mr. James Coupe, of Lane Bridge, Habergham Eaves, but dropped the letter u in his surname on commencing business), left Burnley about a quarter of a century since, as a mechanic, and proceeded to the metropolis, where he at first worked with his elder brother richard, who had likewise left his native place nine years before, and was then a partner with Mr. Sherwin, senr., inventor of several presses, which were in great repute at the time, - the "Columbian" in particular. He subsequently became a partner with Mr. Sherwin's son, and koth the deceased and his senior brother accumulated a fortune, the result of their mechanical ingenuity and their steady, persevering, and untiring efforts. Mr. John Cope, whose death we now record, was the maker of the press which was sent by the committee of the British and Foreign Bible Society to Jerusalem, which is now on the top of Mount Zion, employed in striking off copies of the Holy Scriptures.
