OBITUARY
MR. P. WEST
The internment took place yesterday in St. James’s Churchyard, Briercliffe, the Vicar, the Rev. A. B. Dex, officiating, of Mr. Pickles West (80), of 16, Parker-street, Harle Syke, whose death occurred last Monday. On Monday afternoon Mr. West was apparently in his usual robust health and was out for a walk. It was his boast that he had never missed a day’s work through illness and had never been attended by a doctor. In his younger days he was a notable runner and was the winner of several handicaps. In cricket he was outstanding as a fast bowler. At the age of 17 he was gaiting up at the Stork Mill for Mr. Jack West, later running a double section of looms for the same firm at the mill now known as Harle Syke Mill No. 1. In 1904 he went to Harle Syke Mill No. 2, where he remained until his retirement eight years ago. He was a member of the Briercliffe W.M. Club. He leaves three sons and one daughter, his wife predeceasing him two and a half years ago. The arrangements were by the Burnley Co-op.
