Possibly not the right place to put this but it is relevant to the Stanworths.
As I said above, Benjamin Stanworth married Mally Stansfield 17th June 1789 Heptonstall so I thought I would try again to find her birth. This is what I found on familysearch born Luddenden, which is very near to Heptonstall. The only problem with it is it gives gender as male, whilst underneath it gives another Mally as female. I have never seen a male named Mally, could this be a mistranscription?
name: Mally Stansfield
gender: Male
baptism/christening date: 15 Dec 1771
baptism/christening place: Luddenden, York, England
father's name: John Stansfield
indexing project (batch) number: C02879-6
system origin: England-EASy
source film number: 1542111

Right, not to be beaten I looked on ancestry and they have the parish records for Luddenden St Mary, West Yorkshire, the details are correct but I can see no reference to "male", or John as father, although there is a squiggle of letters after Mally which I cannot make out.
Can anyone else decipher it please.

Oh dear, I have found another which could be her, and it's in Heptonstall
Name: Mally Stansfield
Father: Thos Stansfield
Baptism: 1 Feb 1767 - Heptonstall, St Thomas
Vital: 1 Feb 1767 - Heptonstall, St Thomas, Yorkshire, England

I think the squiggle after Mally is Jno. But I agree there's no mention of male (or female either) Bearing in mind how Familysearch gets its info from I suspect they have a standard form with a column for male/ female and somebody's made an assumption. If the next Mally down says female it's probably because a different person transcribed it.

I agree it says Jno. I think it is the fathers name, if you look at other entries, they all have a male name in there...the bit thats is mising is the bit that would say 'dau of' but I think that is down to lack of space.

To try and eliminate (hopefully!), have a look if any of the Mally's you are finding died in childhood

Good idea Mel, I will look into that later.
Maureen, when I look again I can see Jno now you have mentioned it--ALSO----were you up early or late to bed---3.21am!!!!!!! or are you in foreign climes as well?

No deaths but another marriage
Name: Mally Stansfield
Spouse: John Stansfield
Marriage: 1 Apr 1787 - Heptonstall, St Thomas
Vital: 1 Apr 1787 - Heptonstall, St Thomas, Yorkshire, England
So I have a choice of two, it doesn't give name of father on the parish record. I have to think this would be the first Mally born 1767 making her 20yrs, and the other marriage (1889) to my Benjamin would be the later Mally born 1771 making her 18yrs. It would be possible for it to be the other way around and they would have married aged 22yrs and 16yrs, that doesn't really rule either of them out neither.
Benjamin and Mally married 1789 had various children the eldest of which was called John. This name goes down the family. There is no Thomas at all in that line which makes it lean towards the 1771 birth with father John.
Sorry to bore you with all this but sometimes asking others or writing it down triggers the answer.
Thanks.

I was up late, but I'm sure it wasn't that late! Wouldv'e said 2.21 am was more like it! I checked my board settings and it's showing the right time so I don't know what's going on. Then again the Ribble Valley's in a bit of a time warp of it's own

I have contacted someone on Ancestry who has Benjamin and Mally. They have the marriage as I have, and also Mally's parents as Isaac and Ann Stansfield. We will wait and see if we can, confidently, add on another generation.

Greetings Stanworth researchers.

I have rewritten the Stanworth page on my website at http://www.thornber.net/famhist/htmlfil ... worth.html and added a new section looking at ancestors of the Henry Stanworth who married Mary Duerden. This potentially takes the line back through Henry Stanworth and Ellen Butterworth, then William Stanworth and Alice Parker, then John Stanworth and Grace Lawson, then John Stanworth and Elizabeth to John Stanworth and Ellin. There are still uncertainties because of the number of popular Christian names used. However, putting this new data together has produced some rationalization of what was a very complicated story. There is also shown now a family tree starting with Henry Stanworth who married Ann Bulcock, at St. Mary's, Newchurch in Pendle on 31 December 1778.

My collection of Stanworth data is shown on a separate page at http://www.thornber.net/famhist/htmlfil ... orth2.html I have added some marriages and burials from Worsthorne

I would be very grateful if any of the Stanworth researchers on this forum could confirm or disprove any of the links that I have made. Any additional data or corrections to what I have so far would be most welcome. My collection of Stanworth events at St. Peter's, Burnley may be incomplete as I recall that the microfilm at Burnley Library was often hard to read for the 18th century.

Hi Craig---greetings.
Have we been in touch before re the Stanworths? I have certainly been in contact with Joan. I have also read your family tree pages in the past, and will make a brew and sit down to read the updated version later. You have obviously been very busy.
