Jones A well-known personality whose genial disposition won him innumerable friends, Mr. Sidney Jones died on Tuesday at his home 7, Oxford-road, Burnley, at the age of 61. Mr. Jones, who had been ill for a few months, was born in British Guiana, and came to this country to take up an appointment at the Covent Garden fruit market and at the Manchester Ship Canal. He started a fruit business in Burnley before the last war, and became widely known as the “banana king”. After serving with a transport unit in France for four years during the war, he was employed in contracting work in West Africa for about 12 years. On returning to Burnley he became a haulage contractor and his business gained wide connections. He leaves a widow. The funeral took place at Burnley Cemetery yesterday, arrangements being carried out by H. S. Senior (late E. E. William), 127 Manchester-road.
