Late Mrs. Rushton

Another Briercliffe octogenarian passed away last Saturday in Mrs. Mary ann Rushton (81), of 7, Todmorden-road, Haggate. She was a native of Haggate, but went as a girl to live at the old Toll Bar, Cliviger, and afterwards became a weaver at Marles shed, Burnley Lane, owned by her uncle, Mr. W, wilkinson. Later, she removed to Hird House Farm, Briercliffe, which her parents farmed and which is now farmed by her brother, Mr. J. Wilkinson. after her marriage she spent some years in Burnley and Cowling, and was for some time resident in Colne, where she and her husband had an oatcake business, before returning to Haggate over 40 years ago to the above address. In her younger days she was connected with the Independent Methodist cause at high Sim, Briercliffe, now non-existent. Her husband, who was an overlooker at Hill End Mill, died 17 years ago. she leaves two sons, one of whom is in business as a newsagent at Colne. The funeral took place yesterday in Haggate Baptist graveyard.
