MR. H. STARKIE

The internment took place on Tuesday, in St. James’s Churchyard, Briercliffe, of Mr. Hartley Starkie, whose death occurred the previous Friday at his home, 35, Burnley road, Harle Syke. Mr. Starkie, who had been in failing health for a few months, was born in the Burnley Lane district. Married at St. Andrew’s Church, Mr. and Mrs. Starkie celebrated their golden wedding on the 16th April last year. In those days he was a sideman at St. Cuthbert’s Mission, and later carried out the same duties when St. Cuthbert’s Church was built. Along with his wife and his son and family, Mr. Starkie sailed for Tasmania in June, 1921, returning to this country in October, 1934. Well-known and respected in the district, he attended St. James’s Church, Briercliffe. A twister and loomer by trade, his last place of employment was the South View Manufacturing Co., Harle Syke. He retired about 18 months ago. He was in his 76th year. He leaves a widow, son, three grand-daughters and two great-grand-daughters. The vicar, the Rev. A. B. Dex, officiated at the home, the church and the graveside. Arrangements by Burnley Co-op.
