Mr. C.H.Simpson

The death occurred on Wednesday at the Municipal General Hospital of Mr. Charles H Simpson (69), of 199, Briercliffe-road, Burnley, after declining in health extending over the last two years. Mr. Simpson had a life-long association with the building trade of the town, being a director of Simpson Bros (Burnley), Ltd., builders and contractors, Melbourne-stret yard, Burnley. Declining health compelled his retirement from an active part in the business about two years ago. For more than 30 years Mr. Simpson had been a devout worshipper and energetic worker at St. James's Church, Briercliffe, first as a member of the choir and later as vicar's warden, from which latter position he retired three years ago. In addition he had been a manager of Lanehead Church of England School for the past 10 years. An ardent supporter of the town's football and cricket clubs, he was a member of both for very many years, and was to be seen at Turf Moor regularly until his health began to fail. Mr. Simpson, who will be sadly missed by a wide circle of friends, is survived by his widow, two sons and one daughter, his elder daughter, Sallie, having pre-deceased him four years ago. The interment will take place on Monday next at St. John's Church, Worsthorne.
