Thank you, Mel. Sarah Jane and Alfred Veevers were my great grandparents. They kept a greengrocer's shop at 8/10 Abel Street in 1881. He married Ellen two months after Sarah Jane died. That's pretty quick even for those days but he had twelve children, some of whom were still very young.

Alfred came from Colne. If anyone is researching this family, I have a little more information, but I haven't done a lot of work on them.

Do you have a picture of the gravestone Joan?
It might be amongst my folder containing stones yet to be added but just wondered if you have it.

Yes, I do have a picture, Mel. A correspondent who was going to Burnley photographed it and sent it to me. I just tried to find it on my computer but have stored it in some obscure place.

Mel, I've found the photos, three of them. Will you email me PM. I may need instructions on how to do this. Technology isn't my strongest skill.

Hi, I realize this is a old post ,your Alfred Veevers had a son also named Alfred, he married Gertrude Sandow on May 17th. 1902 in Burnley and moved to Durham Co. shortly after. My interest is with Gertrude,I believe she may have had a illigitimate daughter born several years before named Margaret. Please contact me if you can for more on this.
Tom.

Hi Tom,

Yes, Alfred and Gertrude moved to Durham sometime after their marriage. They had a son, Alfred Sandow Veevers, born in the December quarter of 1908. I haven't done much work on them and I didn't know about an illegitimate daughter. A few years ago I corresponded briefly with a descendant of the family, but then I didn't hear any more from them.
I'd be interested to hear any information that you have, and if I can help at all I will.

Best wishes,
Joan
