The Preston Guardian

Saturday April 10 1847

The Late Thomas Baldwin, Esq.
This gentleman died suddenly, at Birmingham, in the month of January, 1846, possessed of personal property amounting to £200,000. He died intestate, and a bachelor. A considerable number of his relatives reside in this county, among whom are John Taylor, Esp., of Moreton Hall, near Padiham; Mr. Thomas Robinson, draper, Burnley; and Mr. Edmd. robinson, manager of the Burnley Gas Works. The first named gentleman drew £9,000 in behalf of his aged mother, who was a first cousin; and the two latter in their own right, as relatives in the like degree, have each received the same sum. Mr. Richd. Fort, of Waterloo-place, Accrington, has received £18,000 - one moiety in behalf of his mother, and the other in right of his wife. Mr. Wm. Robinson, of Padiham, has also received £9,000. The money was paid on Saturday last, at the Queen's Hotel, Piccadilly, Manchester. We understand that this is, only a first instalment, and that a further dividend will be paid in a short time. The legacy duty on each share amounted to £450.
