HALSTEAD Henry Windle House Briercliffe within Burnley Yeo. Mar 1832

Taken from a book at Rochdale that indexed Lancashire and Cheshire Wills, I think this should be available from the LRO at Preston.

The reference to a death at Monkholme Nursing home in 1945 is interesting, quite poignant really : I was born there in 1944 !!

'Nursing home' today conjures up a vision of a home for old people, in need of regular medical help ; the term seems to have gone out of use for a place for confinement (and I don't mean prison !)

That last one's mine!! I mean my g-g-grandfather.......a couple of years ago there was a frontspiece photo of him on this website, standing in front of his shop in Haggate at the crossroads with Nelson Road. It is still there in the Halstead section of the photo archives. Lovely when a name and a picture come together!!

Both are photos of his shop....I can only assume that the second (which is the one you had as the frontspiece previously) shows my g-g-grandfather in front and some of the family nearby. Can't tell on the first one who that is...or even male or female. I cannot enlarge enough......
Thanks!! Now I know for sure than Lawrence and Edmund were Robert's sons, therefore my g-g-uncles....oh, I may be mixing up my 'g's here!!
I am still not working much at this family tree yet....I hesitate because I know I will become addicted. I have all the relevant pieces to get a good start....I need a kick in the pants to jump in and get it going!
All the pieces and dates I have alrwady are in storage at the moment...(not much room in a motorhome)...I had a choice of that box of stuff or a box of shoes! Shoes won! So, when I can get at the box I WILL get going>>>>
