http://www.burnleyexpress.net/burnley-n ... id=3073994 Lord Mayor comes home to Burnley THE Lord Mayor of the City of London returned to his roots this week when he visited Burnley. Lord Mayor John Stuttard met civic and business leaders for talks about regeneration, education and skills as well as taking in the Clarets' friendly match against Leeds United at Turf Moor. The civic dignitary was visiting his birthplace for the first time in four years, and told the Express how excited he was by the many changes he witnessed. He said: "I am impressed by the many changes in Burnley even just in the last four years. The new St Peter's Centre is iconic in my view and the plans for the Weavers' Triangle are also very exciting. "The town is looking forward and I can sense a real desire to take Burnley's economic regeneration to the next level. The new schools and college with its university campus will all serve to ensure the future is bright for Burnley." Lord Mayor Stuttard, who was born in 1945 in Marsden Road, Burnley, and lived at The Mount, Briercliffe, until 1966, is the elected head of the City of London Corporation and represents the multi-billion pound UK-based financial services industry as its global ambassador. Coun. Gordon Birtwistle, leader of Burnley Council, said: "It was a pleasure to welcome the Lord Mayor back to his birthplace. Burnley is a place that never leaves people even if life takes them away from Burnley. The Lord Mayor saw how the borough is changing. How investment in new schools, colleges, homes, shops and leisure facilities are coming together to re-build this borough that we are all so proud of." Burnley Council chief executive Mr Steve Rumbelow said: "Almost a billion pound of investment is anticipated to transform Burnley over the next 10 years, but some things remain the same - the hospitality, warmth and friendship of the Burnley people."
