Post subject:  William (Billy) Townley 1866-1950

I am British living in Fürth, Germany and researching a major project at the moment for the Football team here SpVgg Greuther Fürth.
I am searching for information and photographs of Billy Townley...I have already seen the existing references to him on the internet.
Following his time as a famous professional and international player in England, Billy came to Germany and is still a 'legend and hero' here! As a manager, he took SpVgg Greuther Fürth to win two major championships and last week I spoke to a senior figure at the club, who said that without Townley's leadership and his major influence in the early years, this team would not be so successful today.
I'm looking for any pictures of him still existing and will supply more information on the usage in due course.
Many thanks,
Paul

Have you seen this link http://www.spartacus.schoolnet.co.uk/BLACKBtownley.htm
and it may be worth contacting the football clubs mentioned.
PS--I have Yates in my family tree.

Thank you Gloria for your prompt reply, I shall check it out.
There was a post on this site some time ago from Brad Seagate in the USA, who was also searching for Billy Townley, I wonder if anyone remembers this?
Greetings from a cold Bavaria!
Paul
