As I am sure many of you will agree, interest in the forum has been low lately. It was never my intention that the forum be the main area of the site anyway....it was always an aside for people to post their queries. However, I don't think Briercliffe is a wide enough area to keep the interest alive.
Can anyone suggets any topics that they would like to see included. These no longer need to be aimed specifically at Briercliffe.

I am interested in Briercliffe and the towns in the area, Burnley, Habergham Eaves, Cliviger, Hurstwood, Worsthorne, Colne etc.

So what categories/topics would you like to see to cover these other areas Kris?

I think surnames are covered generally.

Is interest picking up Mel? I just came across this thread ...I must be out of touch because I thought the forum was going great guns!? ...well I love it anyway.
Some suggestions for what they are worth ...

the main pic could change say every week
If you look on the barlick site (name is eluding me) they seem to be doing a lot of fun things that keep up interest in the site
Could you have a live forum?
Some utube links on Briercliffe ( well I live a million miles away!)

Glenys
will try to think of some more :-)

Interest is ticking over Glenys.
The forum is much more than I ever expected it to be.
We are also doing well in the search engine results. Visitor numbers are triple what they were about 8 or 9 months ago though I guess many pop in for a look around and then leave again without comment.

To change the main pic weekly would be a manual function and there are quite a lot of pics that I wouldn't consider quality enough to feature on the home page. It's a good suggestion though and I will look through the archive to see what pictures could be pulled out and possibly used in this way. It would keep the home page looking fresh.

The OGFB site is completely different to this one and as one of the regular members for quite some time on OGFB, I didn't want to try to replicate that. I wanted this to be completely different and I do have to consider that the Briercliffe Society is the main aim of this site. Whatever goes on here is a possible reflection of their name and reputation.
Also, this site wouldn't support many of the features that OGFB does (such as the games). OGFB has their own server funded by donations from its members. This site is completely free to all and the server space is currently limited and funded, without going into the fine detail, by me. (I should point out at that I don't actually fork any money out at the moment but if I wanted more server space then it is something I would have to consider). I want this site to remain free as it does have appeal though the appeal is limited to one very small township.
Where OGFB seems to be a general site covering all topics, this site is more specialised and concentrates more on local history and genealogy.
I know there are plans afoot within the Society to make better use of this site though at this point I do not know what these are. I am sure I will be involved in any plans once they themselves have come to some decisions and agreements.

I don't understand what you mean by a 'live forum'? This is a forum and anyone can join and take part.

Finally, there are some youtube links on here. It's not a site I go on very often but if people want to post youtube links - feel free.

I've had a look in the archive and there are some pics that will suit the home page. I want to gather a bit of text for them before I use them as I think a pic on its on might look a bit boring.

Thanks Glenys, its a good suggestion. It's made me look in the archive...something I don't really do as I spend more time in maintenance than browsing. I didn't realise just how many pics we have these days!!

The home page has been changed. (You may need to press Ctrl and F5 to clear the previous page if you don't see a change)

This weeks featured pic is Extwistle Hall.

Does anyone want to nominate a picture for next week?

How about a bit of a bio for one of the people pics? Off the top of my head I know Stephanie, Shattonblade, Gloria, Steve Young, Kris and not forgetting Sue have all submitted pictures for the Briercliffe people section. Anyone of them could be the homepage feature for a week but it will need a bit of text with it to add to the interest.

Hi Mel, I like the idea of the change of pics on the home page. You could put one of the pics on with mostly unnamed people ie the Jehovah Jireh pics. There are a few names already done but it may jog peoples interest into naming the rest, as it will hit them when they come onto the site at first.

Thats an idea Gloria. I'd perhaps need to link to the picture back in the archive though as the home page image is relatively small, certainly for something with so many faces anyway.

Love the new home page, think it is a great idea to change it. Gloria's idea is a good one, but perhaps keeping the picture on for just a week is a bit short, if anyone is away on holiday they would miss it, perhaps every month would be good, just a thought.
Would be willing for any of my photo's to be used.
Stephanie.

Homepage looks good, I liked the original pic but it's nice to see a change.
That's a grand picture of the Hall.

By live I was meaning a live link like chat but it's probably too difficult and not really suitable for The B. Society. I do love the Lancs accent though ...it's because i miss my Grandparents (both from Burnley)

I understand now Glenys, you're right though, I don't think it is really an option for this site.
I think OGFB tried it after the revamp and it never really took off. I'm not sure what monitoring it would require either....I know the forum can be hard work at times of excessive spambots.
