Post subject:  Old farmsteads

It would be great to see alist of old farms and their whereabouts in the area. PLUS where possible for members to identify dates and names of inhabitants of these farms. this will help genealogists work out family links. I find the genealogical history of houses is fascinating

Perhaps we could display maps of the area showing where these places are ( or were)

Post subject:  Old maps

At the next meeting of the Briercliffe History Society, Roger is bringing some old maps.
I traced some at the records office, naming most of the farms and fields, but these were mostly the Extwistle area.

I have spent part of my trip to France looking at the various sources of info available (to me) for a farmsteads section. I had given this a little thought already but not put anything into action.
What do you think of a new topic for each property under the 'Roof over their heads' category?
I can add the census info easily enough, I guess some of the inhabitant information is going to be an ongoing thing thourhg possible user participation.

That would be a good idea to put it in the Roof over our heads category, as it would keep it all together, otherwise it could get---a bit on this thread, a bit on that.

Post subject:  Roof over your heads

A good title.
We can all add our own information and its source, so others can check it out if they wish. I found the St Peters registers very interesting, as a clear pattern developed as to who was living where when my ancestors were in a particular place. I think it helps to resolve some of the marriage issues
