A Forest of Chimneys

From an elevated point in Manchester-road, Burnley, no fewer than 73 tall chimneys can be counted, belonging to the different manufacturers in and around Burnley. It is no wonder, then, that Burnley is enveloped on week days with a canopy of thick smoke, so nearly impervious as to exclude most of the rays of the noonday sun.
