Accident At The Viaduct, Calder Vale, Burnley

On the morning of yesterday week, the framework for the sliding crane used in constructing the piers for the viaduct of Calder Vale, Burnley, broke down with a tremendous crash. It appears that at the time a load of heavy stones was being unloaded, and one of them threw down a prop which supported the centre of one of the beams on which the crane slides. The crane having a heavy stone attached to it, immediately broke the beam, and severely injured three of the workmen. One of them was severely cut about the head, and bled profusely, the others were much bruised and stunned. They were immediately carried to their homes, and are at present in a fair way for recovery.
