Burnley Express and Burnley News

Wednesday February 3 1943

A concert in the aid of Gift Day was held in Hill-lane School, on Saturday evening, the Rev. H. Hough presiding. The following artistes entertained:- Miss Edith Kippax (piano solo and accompanist), Miss Stott (violin), Mr. T. Burrows (humorous entertainer), Mrs. Foster (monologues), Mrs. A. N. Other (recitations). Games concluded the evenings programme.

Robert Atkinson (18), of Higher Fennymore, Briercliffe, was fined 10s. on each of two summonses at Reedley Police Court, on Monday, for riding his pedal cycle without red rear light. To P.C. Thomason, who stopped him in Burnley-road, Briercliffe, at 10-10 on the night of January 18th, defendant said there was something wrong with the dynamo and he was unable to put it right. In announcing the decision of the Bench, the Chairman (Mr. H. Noble) commented on the danger to cyclists themselves when riding without lights.
