Fatal Accidents On Wednesday morning, about two o'clock, a person named William Aspinall, employed by Messrs. Chaffer, builders, in one of their quarry-boats. was accidentally killed by falling down the steps of a cellar underneath the Turf Tavern, Burnley. The deceased, who (contrary to general report) was quite sober at the time, was unfortunately after a loose woman, who was making her way as fast as she could to the cellar in question, when he missed his step, and was thrown headlong to the bottom, dislocating his neck by the fall. The woman went into the cellar, and, not coming out again, he was not discovered for more than an hour, when a railway labourer found him, quite dead. - On Saturday last, about ten o'clock in the forenoon, another person named Charles Smith also in the employ of Messrs. Chaffer, was drowned in the river Mersey. Whilst in the act of jumping off a boat, he unfortunately missed his aim, and was thus thrown between the boat and the slip, and, although a line was immediately thrown to him, he did not rise again. The body was not discovered until ten the same evening. He was a native of Pendle-bridge near Burnley and was much respected for his steadiness and integrity.
