Death of a Child By Scalding
On Monday morning last, a fatal accident occurred to the child of Joseph Tait, of Tonson-street, Burnley. It appears the mother of the child went to the mill at the usual hour of working; the father remained for some time after her, and tied the child in achair until he got his breakfast, after which a woman living in the house would nurse it. There was a stool near to where the child sat, on which the father put the teapot after having filled it with hot water; whilst in the act of turning round to put the kettle on the bar, the child (aged eight motnhs) pulled stool and teapot "on to him," and scalded his neck, breast, and stomach. Dr. Uttley attended him, but he died on the same night. An inquest was held on the body at the Hall Inn, on Tuesday evening, when a verdict of "Accidental death" was returned.

A Child Scalded to Death
On Tuesday evening last, about seven o'clock, an inquest was held at the Hall Inn, on view of the body of Thomas Tait, aged eight months. From the evidence it appeared that on Monday morning last, the father, Joseph Tait, residing in Townson-street, tied the child in its chair, near to the fire. He then proceeded to get his breakfast, and for this purpose he filled the tea-pot with hot water, and laid it on a stool near to the child. Whilst in the act of turning round, to put the kettle on the bar, the child, unfortunately, pulled both stool and tea-pot on to him, and was so dreadfully scalded on the neck breast, and stomach, that he died from the effects the same night. Verdict "Accidental death."
