Accident at Gannow
On Thursday week, whilst John Hartley was engaged in the coal-grinding machinery of the Rev. W. Thursby and the Hon. Colonel Scarlett, at Gannow, near Burnley, he fell into the hoppers, whilst in motion, and got his leg and thigh so dreadfully crushed, that amputation became necessary. After the accident, the poor fellow was conveyed to the Sparrow Hawk Inn, Burnley.
