Boy Run Over
On Saturday last, a boy named James Nuttall, aged eight years, was flying a kite near the Lower Houses, and in running backwards came in contact with a cart laden with cotton, when he was thrown down, and the wheel passed over his loins. The poor little fellow died in ten minutes afterwards. On Tuesday last an inquest was held on the body, at the Bird-in-the-Hand Inn, Habergham Eaves, when a verdict of "Accidental death" was returned. No blame was attached to the carter, who deeply regrets the sad occurrence.

Punishment Of The Stocks
On Tuesday last, Wm. Kershaw, who has several times been convicted for being drunk and disorderly, but who has neglected or refused to pay the fine, was placed in the stocks for six hours, where he was visited by many hundreds of spectators, some of whom appeared to sympathise with him on the score that "he had robbed nobody," although he is a well known reckless character, and has lately been in prison for an assault upon a young female! We would ask however, what is to be done with such fellows? Many of the ratepayers object to the expense of prosecuting and imprisoning such like individuals; and are they to go "scot free?" P.C. Walmsley found him fighting on Monday evening last, and very properly took him into custody. He deserves credit for doing his duty, and we trust this example will not be lost upon those who have too long disgraced our streets.
