Instantaneous Death From Kicking

On Thursday afternoon last, Michael Burke, a young man twenty-three years of age, was killed in a beer-house, in Habergham Eaves. The deceased was fighting with a man with whom he had been quarelling. The man jumped on the table, and kicked the deceased just under the ear, thereby causing instant death. Mr. Smirthwaite, surgeon, was sent for, but his assistance was in vain. The homicide escaped, but the police followed in pursuit, and it is anticipated he will speedily be taken into custody. An inquest will be held to-day (Saturday) on the body of the deceased.
