Seasonable Relief To The Poor In Burnley
During the greater part of Tuesday and Thursday week last, the Rev. R.M. Master, Incumbent of St. John's Church, assisted by the Rev. Mr. Bardsley, Curate, and Messrs. Phillips, Powel, and Griffiths, of the Wesleyan Society, were busily employed, at the large and commodious school-room, below the Methodist Chapel, in Hargreaves-street, Burnley, in distrubting meal, potatoes, and bacon, to the distressed poor of the town. An immense number were relieved on each day. This will, no doubt, prove a very seasonable relief to many poor families. Besides the benefit so afforded, the plan adopted works well. Prejudices are cast aside, and ministers of different religious persuasions join unreservedly in the holy work of relieving the destitute poor. It is sincerely to be hoped that those whom Providence has blessed with plenty will come forward with a helping hand to support the rev. gentlemen in their goodly work.
