Death By Drowning

An inquest was held on Monday last, at Habergham Eaves, on the body of Eliza Cooper, aged 15 years. The deceased worked in Holgate's factory, and on Thursday last she was absent from her work. She was sought for on that day and on Friday. On the evening of the latter day, a person on the canal bank perceived something in the canal, and on being got out, it was found to be the body of the deceased. She had all her clothes on except her bonnet, and there were no marks of violence except a small bruise on the forehead. The cause of the body being found in the canal not being satisfactorily accounted for, the jury brought in a verdict of "Found drowned."
