Stabbing At Burnley
Philip Callaghan, 30, pleaded guilty to an indictment charging him with having unlawfully and maliciously wounded John Heron, at Burnley, on the 20th August. -Mr. Nash appeared to prosecute. -The two men worked in a tailor's shop, and, on the day in question, they had a quarrel, during which prisoner, under great provacation, stabbed the prosecutor twice with a pair of scissors. Mr. Nash said he was unable to call Dr. Brumwell, who had been bound over as a witness in the case, inasmuch as he had gone away. In this he had taken what appeared to him (Mr. Nash) a very unpardonable liberty with the Court. -The Chariman said he wanted to have had the doctor's statement particularly. His recognisances would be estreated. -Callaghan was sentenced to six months' imprisonment, with hard labour.
