Liverpool Mercury Friday 27 August 1830 Crook v. Bannister and others This was an action to determine the right of property in two pews in the chancel of the parish church at Colne. The plaintiff claimed pews as appurtenant to a messuage in the township of Colne, and the defendants as being part of a private chapel in the chancel belonging to them. After the trial had lasted a considerable time, Mr. JUSTICE BAILEY suggested an accommodation, and it was finally agreed that each party should take one of the pews, and pay his own costs. For the moeny spent in litigating the claim to these two pews, the parties might probably have built a very comfortable and commodious chapel for themselves. There was no other cause worth noticing. |
