Off to-day to study in America
Sailing to-day on the Queen Mary, from Southampton, on the first visit to the United States which will take him away from England until June next year is Mr. Harry Sutcliffe, 26-years-old son of Mr. and Mrs. James Sutcliffe, of 341, Colne-road Burnley.
Mr. Sutcliffe is going to America to take up a Rotary International Fellowship awarded to him and 54 other students in various parts of the world. He pans to spend a holiday with University friends in Missouri before taking up his studies in September at the Californian Institute of Technology in Pasadena.
The fellowship he gained is worth more than £1,100.
Mr. Sutcliffe, who spent three years at Manchester University, gained his B.Sc. degree with second class honours.
This will be his first visit to America, although he has travelled extensively in Europe.
