The Amateur Casual
The Burnley Revision Court was opened last evening before Mr. George Segar (Revising Barrister). The Conservative agent (Mr. Rogerson) objected to Henry Thornber, of 13, Nichols-street, on the ground that he had received relief. The applicant, a man of private means, passed an experimental night in the casual ward of the Burnley Workhouse, and afterwards publically related his experiences. He had offered restitution to the Guardians, who had refused to accept it. the Barrister, in allowing the vote, said that relief was obtained by a trick from a good motive. The applicant was not destitute when he obtained the relief, and his name should not be struck out of the list.
