Married and Deserted

Vincent Coates, a young miner, was charged at Bishop Auckland on Monday with deserting his wife, who wanted a separation. They lived in Monkhouse Cottages. -Margt. Cook said it was fearful to hear complainants shouts. She heard defendant utter threats when going to Roughlee. -Sergt. Sharp corroborated. The woman's stae showed ill-usage. -Defendant wanted his wife to join him; but complainant, much distressed, said she dared not; and an order for 7s 6d per week was made by the Bench.

Is there another Roughlee or will this article be referring to the Roughlee in Lancashire?

Bishop Auckland is in Durham as you probably know Mel, but I think there is only one Roughlee and that is in Lancashire.

If you Google for Rough Lee Durham, there are references to a Rough Lee (or Roughlee) near Bishop Auckland.
